However, Donald understood that true success required stepping beyond local boundaries. Reinventing the group as A Different Bag, he relocated to Memphis, Tennessee—a move that would prove pivotal. Not long after, Donald set his sights on an even larger stage—Los Angeles. Although offered a recording contract, Donald chose a different path, soon joining Little Richard on tour. Over the next several years, the band performed across the country, appearing on television and headlining major venues, including those in Las Vegas.

Throughout his career, Donald collaborated with remarkable talents. His band briefly included Bobby McFerrin, and later featured James Ingram as lead vocalist. Their performances spanned the United States, Canada, and even Tokyo, where they opened for Ike & Tina Turner.
