1. Congratulations on being named "Best Streaming Fashion Talk Show" by the Hollywood African Prestigious Awards! How does it feel to receive this recognition?

I was elated to be nominated and then win the "Best Streaming Fashion Talk Show" award. Saying I felt vindicated for all my hard work would be an understatement, but it is very true. The Hollywood African Prestigious Award affirmed that my efforts to feature others in a positive light were seen and appreciated. I still look at my award daily with a heart full of joy and gratitude.

2. Models Talk has become a significant platform for emerging talent. What inspired you to create this show, and how did Anna Wintour's vision influence your mission?

KAFTV Models Talk was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of representation for emerging designers, models, and actors. The pandemic shut down runway shows, fashion shoots, and red-carpet events. I have always collaborated with designers and hired models for my brand shoots, so when these activities were halted, I wanted to do my part to keep our industry moving, motivated, and inspired. Before creating the show, I received an email from the desk of Anna Wintour. She was asking her followers, insiders, and fashion fans to do their part and give back to keep the emerging designer afloat. She mentioned how many of them were hurting due to becoming new designers and facing closures of stores with much uncertainty.  That was the confirmation I needed to help and give back.  The feeling of being part of the solution was amazing. To this day, I thank Anna Wintour in my heart for her leadership and platform.  You don't always need direct contact with leaders; sometimes, their vision alone can be the creative inspiration you need.

3. Can you share any memorable moments or standout interviews from Models Talk that have had a lasting impact on you?

There are a few memorable moments and lasting impacts from my show interviews that have profoundly affected me. One such moment was interviewing American Idol and award-winning singer Frankee Razors, who shared his experience of singing to many dying patients during COVID-19. His story gave a poignant reminder of how important it is to cherish life. Another impactful interview was with Jared Lamar, who walked away from a full football scholarship to become a designer. He now designs for high-profile clients like Fantasia, Kanye West, and Mary Mary. Then there's Tyrone Debose, the Kasey Kasem prodigy, who has now been inducted into the Music Hall of Fame.

Last but certainly not least was my interview with Ron Patterson, the legend behind John Robert Powers and IPOP. Ron, who had hired me to choreograph his fashion runway show, confided in me that he was dying and wanted me to interview him. He said, “Kellyanne, my dear, I am dying, and I want you to interview me. I trust you, and I know your platform. I only want to interview with you, and I'm ready when you are.” With that, social influencer Krista and I went into his suite, and the interview began. We completed the interview amidst laughter and tears, often pausing to give him time to regroup. We released it in March of this year. Ron called me, overwhelmed with gratitude and approval. He passed away three months later, in June, ironically the day before I was due to check in at IPOP.

Up until that point, I had shared all the show ideas, designs, and updates with him via phone, text, and email. I just knew I would see him at the show and we would hug. That hug would never happen. Instead, I shed a few tears and unpacked my computer to rearrange the show's ending to honor the man who gave me a chance to choreograph a full runway show. To honor the man who hired me to teach his model Zoom classes and trusted me to interview him without judgment. His one-on-one sessions with me, where he directed me on how I should pursue what I wanted for the show while always using my creativity and never accepting no, will always stay with me. I paid tribute to him during the fashion show at the iPOP July gala awards finale, knowing that his memory, teachings, structure, and kindness will always be a part of me.

4. What current projects are you working on, and what exciting new developments or collaborations can we look forward to from KAFTV?

I am currently working on a fashion show for iPOP. In a new development, I decided to pull out my sewing machine and have the runway show feature my own line, which I named “Re-imagine.” This line focuses on recreating sustainable fashion to help save our planet from the impacts of fast fashion. I am over the moon and excited to share the footage with the world in featured articles showcasing models from around the globe. Additionally, I am discreetly working on two collaborations: one with NY designer Adrian Alicea and another for an upcoming private event that I cannot yet disclose. Oh, and yes, I will need models for both, especially since KAFTV Models Talk is growing and branching out.

5. The fashion industry has faced many challenges during the COVID era. How have you adapted and what changes do you see shaping the future of fashion and media?

Pivoting will be the most crucial adaptation for the future of fashion and media. AI is set to revolutionize fashion styles and shows, both on screens and in person. To stay relevant in this industry, one must keep up with these changes and integrate them into daily features. Already, AI is influencing the landscape by providing insights into trending forecasts and understanding what your audience and buyers are looking for.

6. Your platform has given a voice to many up-and-coming talents, and designers. What advice do you have for aspiring designers and creatives looking to make their mark in the industry?

My advice to aspiring designers and creatives is to have a clear understanding of your brand and what you want to convey. Study what the greats are doing and use that as your blueprint. This industry is not for the faint of heart or those afraid to make a difference. Bring your fresh ideas, vision boards, and innovative thoughts to the table and start making a positive impact with your brand. Don’t be afraid to say no to anything that doesn't align with your brand or growth trajectory. If you feel a bit scared, it means you're tackling something bigger than yourself and are on the right path.
