For Louisville, Kentucky-based model Shayla Richie, modeling is more than a career—it is a promise she made to her younger self. At just 14 years old, Richie approached a local modeling agency and was offered the opportunity to join. However, financial circumstances prevented her family from making the commitment at the time. Rather than letting that setback end her dream, she held onto it, determined to return to modeling when she was able to pursue it independently.

At 23, Richie kept that promise.

Her professional modeling journey began with Breezy Swim during Miami Swim Week, marking the start of what has become an increasingly international career. Since then, she has walked in fashion shows in major fashion destinations including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Milan, while also making her way onto runways closer to home in Pikeville and Louisville, Kentucky. A previous profile on Richie also highlighted her appearances at Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and RX Runway Miami Swim Week.

Her portfolio has continued to grow at an impressive pace. Richie says her work has appeared in more than 100 magazines, including 18 covers, along with a feature on a Times Square billboard. These achievements reflect the momentum she has built in only a few years of professional modeling.

Yet, for Richie, some of the most important moments of her career have come from the relationships she has formed along the way. One of those connections has been with RxRunway, which she describes as her modeling family. Through RxRunway, she took part in a paid promotional photoshoot in Cairo, Egypt, an experience that added another international destination to her growing modeling journey. She was also named Model of the Year and subsequently signed with the agency.

Beyond fashion shows, magazine covers, and international travel, modeling has also become a deeply personal journey for Richie. Entering the industry required her to confront anxiety and push beyond the limitations she once placed on herself. A previous feature described how she struggled with panic anxiety around the beginning of her modeling career, while also emphasizing how stepping onto the runway helped build her confidence.

For Richie, the transformation has extended far beyond learning how to pose for a camera or walk a runway. Modeling has encouraged her to become more confident, embrace new experiences, and discover a genuine love of travel. What began as a teenage dream has evolved into an opportunity to challenge herself and explore the world.

Today, Richie is focused on continuing that momentum. With international runways behind her, numerous magazine appearances to her name, and new opportunities ahead, she remains determined to keep growing as both a model and an individual.

Her story is ultimately one of persistence: a 14-year-old girl whose first opportunity was postponed by circumstances, but whose dream never disappeared. Nearly a decade later, Shayla Richie is walking the runways she once imagined—and showing that sometimes a delayed dream can become an even bigger journey.
