Brian Johnston also known as “Bummy” is a talented vocalist, producer, and musician songwriter and singer from Columbia, Missouri. Consistent on the scene, Bummy, a total music junkie, very persistent, and lighthearted in tough moments, stays devoted and works hard on his craft with the music he generates for himself in a unique way with his melodic voice. Becoming more serious, being dedicated to his work, and proving others wrong remains a goal for Bummy and he is on a mission showing his greatness.
“I am working on mainly production for local artists, as well as pursuing more original music and shows with my band ‘Post War Party’, and looking to become more of an outlet to help book shows. And of course working on solo projects. The feeling inside of me that I’ve never been able to escape, the feeling that I have a chance in this industry. Even when things get hard and discouraging, myself and my fans and others around me remind me of my worth, talent, and potential.” Bummy is a well-rounded artist who refuses to give up even when things don’t go as planned. He wants to keep moving forward and use his music to do good things.
Where are you from?
From Columbia, and I’ve lived here my whole life. I think it’s a really interesting city with a ton of musical ability hidden inside of it. Columbia just gives me a certain creative energy I can’t describe.
What piece of advice do you want others to take back from the work you display?
Don’t give up, pursue what you wanna fuckin do no matter what is going on or how difficult it is to get to your end goal. I know that’s a basic answer, but people don’t take that shit to heart I think because of how much it’s said. But it is true, do not give up.
As a business owner, what are some obstacles you have had to overcome to get where you are at?
Being looked down on because of my age for sure. Been rapping and producing since the 7th grade, and fully pursuing music since 14 and I’ve gotten a ton of backlash and doubt, until I proved my worth to those same people that doubted my ability to progress.
What do you have coming up right now that you want others to know about?
Big things, look for my name, maybe not now, maybe not in 5 years. But I won’t stop trying, and I won’t stop getting better, and I will be known eventually.
Even though Bummy is devoted to perfecting the art of his music to the highest level, his hardships have made him want to do even better in his business. “Pure persistence and determination. Especially persistence in growth, if i make a song and it’s not better in one way or another, or different, than the last song i made? I’m not trying hard enough. And I need to inspire myself. Lately though the growth comes natural, it’s like I’m not trying to make something different anymore it just happens.”
“Bummy”, as some would call him, has a goal to make people want to see more of him, which he has already done in the studio. Putting in the hours of work, commitment, and inspiration both in front of and behind the scenes in the year 2022, he makes a difference in the music business. Bummy explains that lots of important people had an influence in his life. “My father, my girlfriend Quinlyn, who has done so much for me and healed me through many addictions and cycles in m y life. And my old art teacher Lonnie Tapia, who showed me success from art, and showed me how important it is to pursue my talents.”
Despite the passage of time, #Focuseddd continues to emphasize the abilities and motivations of individuals who have a strong purpose for what they do, such as Bummy.
